Cleanup in Isle 378

November 8th, 2010

November, finally the vegetation is dying back and we have a chance to cleanup the on-ramp on Route 378 located at Union Blvd. The space to drivers left on the ramp always is full of litter. Also the space underneath the overpass on Union needs help.

Saturday is the day to go at this before it gets really cold. Interested in helping us out? Meet at 8:45am under the Route 378 overpass. Wear long sleeves and tough clothes and boots. Bring gloves if you have em. We will have plastic bags and we again hope to seperate recycling from trash as we did with the 3rd Avenue cleanup a few months back.

Coffee will be available.

Clean Team storms 3rd Ave On-Ramp

October 2nd, 2010

The NbNW Clean Team led by Megan Donovan stormed the 3rd Avenue Route 378 On-Ramp this morning cleaning up from 3rd Avenue all the way to the Hill to Hill Bridge. After fueling up on coffee and sugary donuts the dirty dozen got to work. Devin Donovan, Megan Donovan, Josh Britton, Pete Nagy, Meghan Rosing, Laura Kremmel, Abby Barnhart, Jenny Hyest, Kevin Thomas, Cheryl Smith

They found: A Bong, motor oil containers, boots, shoes, lots of men’s clothing, rope swing, bike frame, storm drains, lots of recyclables (which were kept separate to be recycled) etc. Yes, that’s right, it does say storm drains. In doing some digging, 2 storm drains were uncovered that we didn’t even know were there. Amazing. Huge pile of trash bags at the on-ramp ready to be hauled away.

Thank you Megan for organizing today’s cleanup and thank you everyone who dove in and helped cleanup! You all win today’s good neighbor awards. Keep watching this space for news about our next fall cleanup…probably the Route 378 On-Ramp on W. Union Blvd.

Students who are 14 years old and in 9th through 12th grade are eligible to participate in the program. Exploring can be an informative and fun way to help you prepare for the future.

Fall is cleanup season in NbNW

September 28th, 2010

Hey, it’s officially Fall! That means the plants will shortly die back and reveal heaps of litter on the Route 378 on/off ramps at 3rd Avenue and Union Blvd. This weekend, Saturday October 2nd, we plan on starting to do something about it by getting at some of that litter.

If you have a few hours to spare, get out those boots, long pants, long sleeves and bring your garden gloves and meet us under the bridge on West Union Blvd where Route 378 passes over to haul out some trash and recyclables and start to turn this site around. There are a few small spots we would actually like to plant some azaleas and rhododendron but we have a ways to go to get to that point yet. First up is getting rid of the trash and chopping back the wild growth. In a couple weeks we can have another go at it when the plants are completely done and we can really get in there.

ALSO, up on the entrance and exit ramp at 3rd Avenue, there is trash and plant debris all the way to the Hill to Hill Bridge. What does this say to visitors to Bethlehem? Let’s get this area cleaned up. If you have a broom, shovel and are an adult (no kids – car traffic is an issue) then we could use your help here.

Coffee and donuts will be provided for this first of Fall event. See you at 9am for a few hours beautifying Bethlehem.
